Sculpture Space NYC call for applicants
Sculpture Space NYC is an experimental ceramic center, dedicated to sculptors, artists and designers who are interested in exploring new material possibilities with clay as part of their creative practice. Artist and designers with diverse artistic practices and materials are welcome.
Our facility currently offers 4,500 square feet of individual and shared workspaces, natural light, potters wheels, a slab roller, an electric kiln, plaster mold making facilities, prototype development assistance, and some technical support. The center is located in Long Island City, a neighborhood located in New York City’s borough of Queens. Centrally located, it offers easy access to and from Manhattan and Brooklyn via subway, bus, and bicycle.
We are offering two different types of residencies: one for artist’s interested in expanding their practice through research and development (expand residency) and artist’s who are proposing a specific project for a commission or exhibition (aim residency). The duration will be 3 months to 1 year. In your proposal please explain which residency and length of time best suits you and why.
As a resident artist you will become an integral part of the studio, creating the space that will help you to further expand your creative practice while giving you the opportunity to share your own visual language and cultural practices with our community of makers.
$1,000 a month
24 hour access to studio facilities, opportunities to participate in artist talks and workshops, use of our Share Space (where you will have space experiment with installations, as well as for short exhibitions, specially curated events, etc.). Based on your experience, we will also offer some technical support and guidance, which would be discussed prior to the residency.
Fees do not include
Materials, firing, travel or living expenses (though we will be happy to give you some resources and suggestions).
Please send your proposal for either Expand Residency orAim Residency and preferred duration of residency. Also include your website or 10 images of your current work (max. dimensions 800 x 800px, 72 dpi), level of experience with clay, and optional resume or autobiographical statement.
