“A Day With John Gill"

 Sunday October 13, 2019    10am - 5pm

“A Day with John Gill” is a rare opportunity to witness the thought process and studio techniques of one of contemporary ceramics most unique artists. John Gill is a potter, professor, and storyteller. He has a highly individualistic way of seeing and making connections between things and his hand building demonstrations are legendary, conjuring up ways to improvise with form and color while offering thought provoking insights.

In this workshop John will make things. Demonstrations will include hand building with slabs and using techniques borrowed from fabric construction to create functional objects. John will also demonstrate how he approaches the interaction between two dimensional shape and color on three dimensional structure, where the history of ceramics, painting, and sculpture collide.

John graduated in 1973 from the Kansas City Art Institute with a BFA and an MFA from Alfred University in 1975. He is a Professor of Ceramic Art at The New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University. His work has been exhibited and collected internationally. A member of the Council of the International Academy of Ceramics, he has lectured throughout the US, Canada, and China.
