GUY C. CORRIERO is a sculptor and painter based in Brooklyn, New York.

Corriero has been a painter for more than 20 years and started making sculpture in 2011, originally inspired by small ceramic figures his daughter brought home from grade school.

Corriero rethinks and reimagines the traditional form of the vase as a starting point. Working in both ceramic and plaster, attention is paid to texture and surface. Hand-formed vessels become anthropomorphic----they have “arms”. Recent works are painted and arms morph into hats, inspired by those found in late Picasso paintings. The sum effect is that of specific character, a being, that nonetheless has utilitarian form.

Corriero attended the School of the Visual Arts, where he received his BFA and MFA. After graduating school Corriero worked as an assistant to the sculptors William Tucker and Petah Coyne.

Guy Corriero’s work has been exhibited domestically and abroad since the early 1990s, and a recent group show Momentary Pause, special exhibition organized by The Future Perfect gallery, part of Frieze, Los Angeles 2022.
