Sculpture Space NYC Center For Ceramic Arts is proud to announce its upcoming exhibition “Rethinking Plastic: Returning to Clay” showcasing a diverse collection of works from members of the Académie Internationale de la Céramique (also known as the International Academy of Ceramics or IAC).
Running from June 19 through July 18, 2026, the exhibition marks the SSNYC-CCA’s ongoing commitment to supporting both local and international ceramic artists. Rethinking Plastic: Returning to Clay is a collective reflection on material, memory and responsibility. The upcoming showcase features 28 ceramics artists. Though functional, sculptural and installation works, participating artists explore the idea of clay replacing plastic.
Rethinking Plastic: Returning to Clay presents ceramic work that creates mindfulness about the environmental footprint that the abuse of plastic is creating on our planet and the need to reduce plastic pollution by living with less plastic and more clay. Given free range to interpret the theme in the broadest possible terms participating artists present a full spectrum of work that relates to the concept of Clay Replacing Plastic literally, figuratively, metaphorically and politically in funcional, sculptural and installation formats.
